I wish to welcome you to the pioneer planning school in Nigerian Universities. It was established in 1972 to train students of Urban and Regional Planning at the postgraduate level. In 1988 it expanded to provide training at the undergraduate level. Subsequently in 2007, additional postgraduate programmes were introduced in the specialised areas of Urban Management as well as Tourism and Recreation Planning. As a department, Urban and Regional Planning in Ahmadu Bello University believes that each student is a unique individual whose emotional, physical, social and intellectual growth requires a caring and stimulating atmosphere. It is thus our desire to help students meet their fullest potential through moral and academic support as well as sharing of ideas. In today’s competitive society (particularly as it relates to the notion of making cities and surrounding areas work sustainably), it is important for students to not only receive a solid education, but to be trained and also work in an environment that is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. Urban and Regional Planning Department, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria is such a place and will always strive to be the best planning school that it can be.
