Welcome to the Department of Quantity Surveying, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Our department is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary centre dedicated to teaching, research, and professional development in the built environment. We offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to equip students with strong competencies in cost management, procurement, construction economics, and project delivery. Over the years, our graduates have made remarkable contributions across the public and private sectors, helping to shape best practices and strengthen the Quantity Surveying profession within Nigeria and internationally. Philosophy - The philosophy of the Quantity Surveying programme of Ahmadu Bello University is tied to the resourcefulness of the profession. As a profession that delves into several disciplines, it prepares professionals in a broad-based knowledge to enable them improve, sustain and uplift the socio-economic well-being of their environment. Emphasis is placed on planning, cost, finance, contract, value, management and economic activities in the built environment. Furthermore, the programme prepares graduates to play distinctive and prominent roles in the built environment.
Mission - To stimulate, promote and coordinate culture of excellence in the advancement of frontiers in learning and breaking of new grounds through the use of first-class facilities and multi-disciplinary approaches in teaching and research to produce capable minds towards achieving best value in the built environment.
Vision - To be a world-class Department engaged in instructing and leading the development of up-to-date knowledge in Quantity Surveying.
Our vision is to be among the top ten Quantity Surveying programmes world wide in the next ten years. There is a considerable breadth of research being undertaken in the Department; emphasising the development, improvement and enhancement of knowledge related to Quantity Surveying and Construction. With the new postgraduate programmes, the Department aims to build upon and enhance its existing research strengths and attainments. Importantly, the Department is open to collaborations with other academic and professional institutions and construction/consulting organisations both in Nigeria and abroad. We have an experienced and well regarded body of academic staff that specialise in a variety of areas of research expertise including procurement management, information management, financial management, value management, risk management, cost modelling, sustainable construction, project control and monitoring, gender studies and skills development. The facilities that exist in and around the Department support the learning and teaching and our students and researchers benefit from access to our state of the art computing facilities.
